Laugh for The Health of It
Laughter Groove promises to increase your endorphin and serotonin production! These are the brain chemicals responsible for improving your feelings of wellbeing as well as reducing pain and discomfort. Once there is an upsurge of these chemicals, you will feel happy enough to laugh over and over again as in a chain reaction. When you’re in a group of people, you’re more likely to laugh over an extended period of time.This class combines interactive exercises and activities utilizing laughter, breathing, body movement and music that are simple, fun and guaranteed to improve your vitality, lessen pain and everyday stress and promote a more positive mental attitude.
Kim Selbert is a Licensed Occupational Therapist, a Certified Laughter Yoga Leader and the Owner and Founder of Laughter Groove. She has been facilitating laughter groups since 2007 and leads her own form of music therapy for seniors in assisted living and memory care facilities since 2013. Currently, Kim leads a monthly laughter club, known as the Mar Vista Laughter Club at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Mar Vista. She has facilitated many laughter workshops and classes throughout Los Angeles. Included among the places where Kim has led laughter workshops are: The Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center in Burbank, Tiverton House in Westwood, Wise and Healthy Aging in Santa Monica and for the “How to Festival” at the Santa Monica Public Library.
