Pilates to Enhance Your Yoga Practice:
Learn new techniques from the core specific workout known as Pilates! Skills such as balance, strength, and stamina all stemming from the abdominals can be cultivated from this top fitness system. This workshop will break down the different Pilates methods to provide you with new tools to target your abdominals and achieve a safer and stronger yoga practice. Focusing on the core, pelvic floor, and bandhas we will work to create better alignment and breath throughout yoga asanas. This workshop will leave you feeling muscles you never knew you had!
No Pilates experience required, but some yoga knowledge beneficial.
Keary Ann Bixby, owner and founder of two Los Angeles based health and wellness businesses Playa Pilates and Yoga Vista, has been involved in health and fitness since an early age. Playing basketball and running track throughout her youth Keary’s love for conditioning the body followed her to Los Angeles where in 2004 she began her path as a Pilates instructor. She completed Retrofit Pilates Rx teacher training course in 2004 and became certified through Pilates Method Alliance in 2008. She has also completed a 100hr Graduate Module with Julie Rader through Mukti Yoga School to enhance her knowledge of ancient texts, philosophy, mythology, and strategies for living a yogic lifestyle.
Her entrepreneurial spirit found her opening Playa Pilates in 2004 and eventually a Yoga studio, Yoga Vista, in 2010. Both studios allowed Keary to combine her passion for business, teaching and wellness by sharing her knowledge with her clients on a daily basis.
Keary also feels strongly about giving back to her community and is involved in a number of different activities. She is the founder of “Power in the Park” Yoga for Charity, which holds Yoga events monthly for a variety of charities. She is also active with The Mirman School for Gifted Children’s “Women in Math and Science”, LMU’s Race for Success, and Otis Art College’s Annual Scholarship Benefit and Fashion Show.
Keary’s enthusiasm for a balanced workout, movement, breath, and love for her surrounding community is exhibited in her own classes as well as throughout her studios!
