Chanting the Yoga Sutra
The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali is perhaps the single most important treatise on Yoga. It has been the source of inspiration and the principle guide of yogis for centuries. By tradition in India, the study of philosophical texts begins with chanting. Immersion in the sound world of Sanskrit and the vocabulary of Patanjali is invaluable in preparing the mind to understand the teachings contained in the Yoga Sutra.
This workshop will present some of the most important sutras and allow participants to experience chanting them in the traditional Indian call-and-response format. Simple translations of the Sanskrit will also be offered.
Sigrid Wagner has been a student of Vedic chanting for the past fourteen years. She is trained in the Krishna Yajur Veda tradition of Sri T. Krishnamacharya and has studied with Sonia Nelson in Santa Fe, New Mexico and T.K.V. Desikachar in Chennai, India.
